FLOAT CLINIC DESIGN

FLOAT CLINIC DESIGN

A Float Clinic requires a specially built pool where individuals effortlessly float on a bed of water that has been saturated with over a thousand pounds of Epsom salt. The open float pool is constructed in a room built to be soundproof and lightproof, and tightly calibrated so that both the water and air match the temperature of your skin. The Clinical Floatation research at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research in Tulsa, Oklahoma has demonstrated that the open circular float pool can provide relief for patients suffering from anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and depression.

The Open Float Pool design - A new approach to floating

For several decades, float tank design used relatively small enclosures, creating a large barrier to entry for patient populations with claustrophobia and mobility issues. During that time Floataway pioneered a new approach which removes all enclosures and instead uses an open circular pool design. Dr Justin Feinstein came to the same conclusion for the LIBR clinic. The open pool is built in a room constructed to be lightproof and soundproof, with closely calibrated temperature and humidity. The open pool design is much more welcoming and reassures anxious subjects and patients. It provides easier access in and out of the pool, including for people with disability or mobility issues, as well as senior citizens.

The architecture and technology for the open pool design was developed by Floataway for the Laureate Institute for Brain  Research (LIBR) to provide:

  • continuous in-room audio feed with two-way intercom to communicate with patient
  • cloud-based data logging of all system parameters
  • the capability for wireless real-time monitoring of vital signs
  • automated cleaning and sterilization of the float water using a high-powered disinfection system combining 35% hydrogen peroxide with UV
  • separate rooms for patient briefing, technical equipment, and clinical staff
  • full control over the pool lights, including an infrared wave detection system that allows patients to simply wave their arm to turn the lights on and off
  • specially designed spring support system underneath the pool to isolate all ground-borne vibrations and sounds
  • tightly-controlled temperature and humidity regulation (without the need for expensive HVAC renovations)
